Transforming Instruction with Technology ~ Moving Up the SAMR Ladder

Dr. Ruben Puentedura developed the SAMR model as a way for teachers to evaluate how they are incorporating technology into their instructional practice. You can use the SAMR ladder to reflect upon how you are integrating technology into your classroom activities. Is it an act of Substitution? Augmentation? Modification? Or Redefinition?

In this workshop we will use the SAMR framework to assess and evaluate iPad use in your classroom. You will then pick an activity you currently do with your students, evaluate where on the SAMR ladder it sits and redesign the activity so that it is on a higher level.

Participants will come to this workshop with an activity they do with their students - one that that they will “move up the SAMR ladder”. A good activity to use can have one or more of the following qualities:
  • Be something you are passionate about
  • Prove to have been difficult for your students in the past
  • Serve your students well in their future studies or outside of the classroom

Please have access to any materials that you currently use for this topic when you come to the workshop.
